Molecular Weight

Molecular weight (MW) is the mass of a single molecule, usually given in daltons or g/mol. For a peptide it is the sum of its amino acids’ masses minus the water lost forming each bond.

MW has two practical uses in research: mass spectrometry compares the measured mass to the theoretical MW to confirm identity, and the MW is used when calculating molar concentrations from a reconstituted solution.
