DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a nonapeptide first isolated in 1977 from the cerebral venous blood of animals during delta-wave sleep. It is studied as a neuromodulator of sleep and the stress axis.1

Unlike a classic sedative, DSIP is studied for modulating sleep architecture and stress-related signaling rather than directly inducing sedation. Its precise receptor targets remain an open research question — one reason it is described as incompletely characterized.
